Green Acres Development Center
625 Meadowlawn Street Bridge City, Texas 77611
Closed in September 2008 due to damage from Hurricane Ike. In October 2008 the individuals living at Green Acres were temporarily moved to other AHS facilities in San Augustine, Brownwood or West Columbia. In 2009, AHS partnered with the State of Texas and has opened small group home settings for these individuals in areas of their choice. This activity, supported with "Money Follows the Person" funds, is part of a national program to assist people to move from larger settings (ICFMR's) to smaller homes of their choice. AHS opened the first of these homes in February, 2009 and an additional seven homes were opened during the spring and summer of 2009 in the Beaumont, Orange, Lumberton area for these persons. For additional information contact the AHS office in Orange (409-883-4470 ).
