Improving Staff Education the AHS Way...

American Habilitation Services understands that continuous learning is an essential part of being a good provider of supports to people. At the same time, with all of the constraints on education created by travel costs, staff having differing schedules and the differences in what employees want from their educational experiences, AHS decided to take a major step forward by partnering with "Essential Learning" to expand the training and staff development it offers all of its employees. While "on-line" learning services will not replace all on-site training activities, it will go a long way towards making sure that everyone working for AHS receives the amount and quality of education that they need and deserve.

Essential Learning, based in San Diego, California, was founded in 2002 and is the nation's largest provider of customized e-learning services to human service organizations and practitioners. They use a variety of easy to use web-based products and a top-notch course library developed with subject matter experts.  Their faculty have developed numerous on-line training modules in the areas of developmental disabilities, health care and how employees can better perform in the  workplace.

Essential Learning will also be uploading AHS specific educational materials to ensure that all staff gain an understanding of the person centered approaches that we are commited to. In this way, AHS helps to ensure that their staff gain "the best of both worlds"  - nationally recognized training and company specific approaches to individualized supports.
